Curriculum Enhancement
While we have the highest of expectations for our pupils within the classroom, this is only a part of the learning experience that we offer. We believe in providing a breadth of opportunities for our pupils to allow them to discover their passions and talents and give them the best possible foundations to carry forward into the next stage of their education and future lives.
An extensive range of extra-curricular activities is provided at Thanet, both during and after school. This includes activities such as: sports, music, choirs, languages, theatre visits, museums, science and art.
We celebrate and encourage the children to take part in national events such as: World Book Day, Children in Need, Odd Sock Day and many other school-based, specially themed days where the children can dress up, create projects and models and experience a totally different school day.
Please see below for an example of what else we offer to children to support their education and develop leadership skills:
Curriculum Enhancement
Music - At Thanet Primary School, music is a vibrant pillar of the curriculum, beginning with a foundational partnership between Year 3 and the Hull Music Service. In these weekly sessions, Ms Collison works with pupils to explore the core fundamentals of pulse and rhythm by using their voices and bodies as instruments. This creative journey culminates in a grand operatic performance each year; for 2026, the children are preparing to take the stage with a production of Carmen.
PE - Through membership of the Hull Active Schools program our pupils take part in competitions in a variety of sports and pupils in Y4 also take part in swimming lessons.

Sex/Drug Education - is taught as part of the school’s PSHE and Curriculum policies with a particular focus on these areas during the summer term for all pupils in Years 1 to 6. The school follows the Jigsaw PSHE programme.

The curriculum is also enhanced by a range of additional activities including taking our children on a variety of high quality visits or inviting visitors into school. We have excellent links with the Children's University and every year our Year 6 pupils take part in a day visit to London.

We also take part in the STEM and Environmental Conferences each year, giving Year 5 and 6 pupils the opportunity to explore the word of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Pupils from Year 6 also represent the school at half termly meetings of the International Schools Council.
