Developing aspirations, building futures
and letting imaginations fly as we aim high

Curriculum Enhancement

At Thanet we believe that education plays a key role preparing pupils for a happy and successful future. We aim to nurture and develop well-rounded individuals, ensuring that our pupils not only learn core skills across the full curriculum subjects, but also develop important ‘skills for life’ such as self-awareness, compassion, teamwork, personal organisation and leadership.

While we have the highest of expectations for our pupils within the classroom, this is only a part of the learning experience that we offer. We believe in providing a breadth of opportunities for our pupils to allow them to discover their passions and talents and give them the best possible foundations to carry forward into the next stage of their education and future lives.

An extensive range of extra-curricular activities is provided at Thanet, both during and after school. This includes activities such as: sports, music, choirs, languages, theatre visits, museums, science and art.

We celebrate and encourage the children to take part in national events such as: World Book Day, Children in Need, Odd Sock Day and many other school-based, specially themed days where the children can dress up, create projects and models and experience a totally different school day.

Please see below for an example of what else we offer to children to support their education and develop leadership skills:

Curriculum Enhancement

Music -   At Thanet Primary School, music is a vibrant pillar of the curriculum, beginning with a foundational partnership between Year 3 and the Hull Music Service. In these weekly sessions, Ms Collison works with pupils to explore the core fundamentals of pulse and rhythm by using their voices and bodies as instruments. This creative journey culminates in a grand operatic performance each year; for 2026, the children are preparing to take the stage with a production of Carmen.

As they progress into Year 4, the focus shifts to the energetic world of Samba with Ms Hunt, where students learn to master a diverse array of percussion instruments. Beyond the classroom, children have the prestigious opportunity to showcase their talents at city-wide music festivals hosted at the Albemarle Centre, representing the school in friendly competition with others from across the region.
The musical journey deepens in Years 5 and 6 with Mr Rhodes and Ms Nolan, where the school funds "Wider Opportunities" to ensure children that want to can access high-quality instrumental tuition. These small-group weekly lessons allow pupils to develop technical proficiency in stringed instruments, specifically the violin and cello.
Children with specific learning needs are involved in weekly music and song sessions with Mr Holmes who works tirelessly to encourage our children to find confidence in themselves and their own talents including solo singing and dance!
To complement all this hands-on learning, the entire school community enjoys a live concert from the music service every term. These performances offer exposure to a rich variety of genres, with recent highlights including an elegant strings ensemble and a high-energy rock band, ensuring that every child at Thanet Primary is inspired by the power of live music.
